The CEC postpones election of its chairman to February 27, 2004


[ 25.02.2004 ] The Central Elections Commission decided to postpone the election of its chairman, scheduled to happen today, to February 27, 2004. As the mandate of Mr. Ilirjan Celibashi as chairman of the CEC had ended, the agenda of today’s meeting was the conduct of the voting process for the election of the head of the institution.

Today’s meeting of the Central Elections Commission, was chaired, as the Electoral Code provides, by the oldest member of the CEC, Mr. Tomorr Malaj. The walk-out of the meeting of the CEC member Dode Prenga led to the decision for the postponement of the election of the chairman, as the other members of the CEC decided unanimously to give the opportunity to Mr. Prenga to attend the voting procedure which is due to take place on February 27, 2004.




The CEC announces final result of 2003 Local Government Elections

[ 04.02.2004 ] The Central Elections Commission announced the final result of 2003 Local Government Elections in its Friday meeting. The final decision was unanimously taken by all the CEC members.

Only a few days ago, the Electoral College of Tirana Court of Appeals ended the examination of the last electoral complaints, making it possible for the CEC to rule its final decision.

According to the final elections result, Socialist Party won 34. 64 per cent of the votes, Democratic Party 32.42 per cent of the votes,
Social –Democratic Party- 5.31 per cent, and Republican Party 3.37 per cent of the votes. The number of constituencies won by the SP is 186, whereas PD+PR+PBL won in 142 constituencies, Union of Human Rights Party -11 constituencies, SDP- 8 constituencies.

The official figure of the turn-out in 2003 local government elections is 45.75 per cent.

 



The CEC announces the winning candidate of the Vau Deja Municipality

[ 04.02.2004 ] The Central Elections Commission decided to announce the winning candidate of the Vau Deja Municipality elections, Mr. Dede Dodani supported by the Socialist Party and the Democratic Alliance.

After the January 25th, 2004 elections in three voting centers of this electoral unit, those of Mjeda, Narac, and Shelqet, the local government elections commission declared the candidate Dodani as winner. Afterwards, it was the turn of the Central Elections Commission to announce the final decision on the grounds of results issued by all the voting centers of the Vau Deja Municipality.
